Hi.

Colour. Pattern. Design. Interiors. Life.

The Collection: Trays

The Collection: Trays

I love colourful interiors!

So I'd like to introduce you to every colour combination imaginable, in the form of my vintage tray collection. I want to show you that I practice what I preach!

I acquired my first tray about 25 years ago at a car boot sale, I used to go every weekend and soon I was actively looking out for more of these colourful gems. I remember when I had 10 or so and thought 'what a great collection I have now!'. Little did I know that I'd have 10 times that amount years later. The combination of colours and patterns makes me feel really happy, even more so now that they are on display.

Like a lot of collectors, I feel my completing the assemblage will never be finished. In fact, to see a new tray and not buy it is unimaginable for me. There is some conflict though as I am running out of space to display them all (well, technically there’s room for about 15 more), but my heart still flutters when I acquire a new one. I’m beginning to find there are less in circulation these days, but that’s possibly because I have them all and I don’t buy the same tray twice unless it’s in a different colour way. The majority were made in England by Worcester Ware and Elite Trays, I don’t know anything about the manufacturing process, but I would love to, so if you know please leave a comment!

I’m often asked if I have a favourite, but that’s like asking a parent if they have a favourite child (ask on any given day and the answer will be different to yesterday!) It’s a standing joke at home, that when I’m carrying more than one mug of tea or juice (spilling it everywhere!), what I really need is a tray – Unfortunately, they’re all on the wall, oh well.

The youngest in the house loves to tally up the numbers (106 at last count) and strangely enough they all have an individual sound if ‘played’ with a ‘sword’, or other beating implement.

Most are in extremely good condition considering they’re all over 50 years old, a  little bit of rust here and there, but nothing that detracts from their vibrant, showy beauty.

They are in a prime position to gather dust, however, that’s only noticeable when I wear my glasses! It really doesn’t take long to wipe them all though, so that’s a relief!

Do you have a well photographed collection that you think I might be interested in featuring? Drop me a line or a comment and let me know what it is! I love seeing other people's collections!
